I chose the “Uncle Sam Wants You!” poster. I feel like this one could have a few universal meanings. The one that sticks out, in my opinion, is belonging. The big figure in your land is choosing you to help your people. You belong and have a purpose, one that is important. Uncle Sam posters were created by a culture of patriotism, pride in your country. It was meant to show that “the man” needed help and that farmer Joe could do his part. All of this shows everyone can belong and contribute to the whole. Isolation, both physical and mental, isn’t good for the human condition. In my opinion, this poster shows that a guiding figure needs you; to belong to this group is to help. To do something an individual cog normally couldn’t do or affect.
