Description and Instructions
Introduction: Your essay should begin with an introduction that leads into your Research Question (RQ) and working thesis. The introduction should begin by introducing your topic to the reader and providing a preview of what’s to come (essential background). A good way to set up the RQ in a “natural” way is to quote two sources that disagree on the topic. Then you can write, “This debate leads to the question, [add your RQ here].” The last two sentences of the introduction should be 1. your RQ and 2. thesis (which answers your RQ).
Body Paragraphs: Each body paragraph should begin with a topic sentence that clearly states the main idea and topic of the paragraph in your own words. As a whole, body paragraphs should be organized according to a clear structuring principle that arranges ideas clearly and logically, often from basic to complex ideas. A good structure for this paper might be: I. Introduction, II. Define key term, III. Clarifying example of key term, IV. Other essential information (e.g. history), V. More essential information, VI. More essential information, VII. Repeat as necessary.

Your research papers will use a lot of sources, ranging from peer-reviewed articles from databases like EBSCO to documentary films. You will cite all your sources in the body paragraphs and document them on the Works Cited page. Most of your sources will come from online sources and databases.
