Constructed sounds and space: Individual Post
1. Locate three scenes in three different films where a person is shown walking (this won’t be hard to do) and try to describe how the sound of that walking is registered in the sound track. (You can find clips on Youtube, Vimeo, etc.)
Then compare the three and analyze why the walking sound(s) might have been constructed as they were (suppressed because other sounds are more relevant, louder and shaped so as to bring out the typical qualities of some indoor or outdoor space, louder in order to focus our attention on the walker and his or her trajectory in the frame, etc.). Please apply and incorporate at least five musical terms in your descriptions.
Your analyses should be around 250-300 words and should contain specific time marks in your videos and analysis. You could use the style used in HtM on pages 21-22. Also feel free to us a list format with descriptions and conclusions! Please include links to clips.
Your comments on two team member’s posts should run around 100-words each, assessing their successful/unsuccessful use of musical terms and the connections you find with their analyses and your own.
Please post your 250-300-word analysis by Thursday @ 11.59pm (40 points) and your detailed 100-word comment and reaction to two group members’ posts by Friday @ 11.59pm (10 points).
