ANALYSIS AND DESIGN OF ORGANIZATIONS
Winter 2014
Research Paper
Your research paper may be written on one of the following topics:
1.Planning and Managing Change
2.Lewin’s Three-Stage Model
3.Systems Approach to Organizational Design
4.Matching Organizational Designs w/ Information Processing Systems
5.Forecasting Tools and Techniques
6.Integration of individual and organizational goals
7.Explain organizational typology and how it affects the organization
8.Expectancy Theory of Motivation and its implication on management
9.Dimensions of Organizational structure and interrelationship with effectiveness
The paper should contain the following sections:
I. The Introduction
Describe the particular topic and discuss why it is important to you. Why do you think that it is an important issue for analysis and design of organizations?
II. The Review of the Literature
The Review of the Literature involves locating, reviewing, and evaluating resources (articles, journals, books, white papers, etc.) that provide both background material and information on related studies. The paper should include a minimum of 8-10 sources in the review with the majority of sources being journals and periodicals rather than books. The paper should not use websites as sources in the Review; however the use of search engines, such as EBSCO, is appropriate to locate credible sources. As you review your sources, look for the major subtopics of the material and organize your literature under these various subtopics. It is important to organize your literature review in the sequence best ordered for a logical flow of the information. An article-by-article presentation, stringing them together, is much less appealing than a review organized by subtopics.
III. Conclusions
The concluding section of your paper should include the author’s (your) opinions and personal experiences about the concepts, theories, and issues discussed in the literary review. It is an opportunity for you to discuss how you will use the information for personal or professional development. Moreover, it is your chance to provide some advice to other professionals based on your experiences and the literature.
IV. References
The Reference List is an alphabetical listing of your sources by author’s last name. If the source does not list an author, use keywords within the title (Business Analysis) being cited then list by title of the article alphabetically in the reference list (See purdue owl as mentioned above). With articles downloaded from EBSCO, you will have the original citation. Use that original citation both within the paper and in the reference list (please note that some of them do not conform to APA 6th ed). With other search engines, APA reference information may not be available. In this case, the complete web address of the search engine should appear in the referenced citation. Review all sources cited within the literature review so that they match exactly to the reference section of the paper. Check this before submitting the assignment.
