Good Evening, Dr. Havrilko and Classmates;
I made an initial readthrough of the material for this module to get an idea of what I was dealing with and went to work searching Youtube for relevant videos. I am sure this is not the case for some, but I enjoy videos that show more than just the material, but also give me an idea about the person or the history behind the material. During my search I found a video that I enjoyed where Marvin Weisbord talked about the origins of his method and the situation surrounding its development. This was an interesting look at both the history and his inspiration while consulting for Bethlehem Steel. It is located at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gWpd1kRNxaQ and for those who don’t want to sit through the history lesson you can jump to about 23:00 and get the final description of the Future Search method. The video helped me with the concepts because it helped me understand the motivations and goals behind its creation. Weisbord presented himself well and relayed his knowledge and experience that have made him a successful consultant.
I found a small video shot by a Poland conference attendee who did a small personal interview of Harrison Owen during a break. I like this video because it helps understand the theory behind Open Space, and at the same time conveys his knowledge and experience that he has to offer. Watching the video as he talks with the recorder, I am tempted to refer to him as “wise”. But this may just be the grizzled old ranch hand appearance that subconsciously reinforces that. While I was searching through the videos by, or of, the consultants, I did find one more I wanted to pass on. If you can get by the voice, it does a decent job of describing Future Search with some visuals and examples. It can be found at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rmBjrn4yYII .
